Coflore® Agitated Cell Reactor (ACR)

The Coflore® Agitated Cell Reactor (ACR) is AM Technology’s Laboratory-Scale Flow Reactor. The Coflore ACR is an actively mixed, bench-top flow reactor, used within a laboratory environment for developing and optimizing scalable flow chemistry solutions, or for when limited quantities of reactants or material are available or required. Processes designed and optimized in the Coflore ACR can be scaled up to multi-kilogram and multi-ton production in the Coflore ATR and Coflore RTR flow reactors.

The Coflore ACR is a mechanically agitated flow reactor with a reactor channel divided into ten stages, operating as ten CSTRs in series for plug flow performance. Coflore technology provides efficient active-mixing even at very low flow rates, providing versatility for handling a variety of liquid, liquid-liquid, solid-liquid, liquid-gas, and solid-liquid-gas reaction mixtures, including dense slurries.

The Coflore ACR flow reactor is ideal for establishing and developing continuous processes prior to scale up, or when only limited quantities of material are available or required. Processes developed on an ACR platform have a straight-forward path to scale up via the larger volume Coflore ATR and Coflore RTR pilot and production scale flow reactors.

The ACR-100 cell block is comprised of ten inter-connected reaction stages in series and block is positioned within the ACR reactor block assembly, which is in turn mounted onto the ACR agitating platform within the ACR control cabinet.

The ACR-100 cell block is ideally suited to processing homogeneous and multi-phase mixtures, including dense slurries.
The Coflore ACR Counter-Current Cell Block (ACX-100) is used for counter-current operations, including counter-current extraction, for multiple phases flowing in opposite directions along the reaction path. The ACX-100 replaces the ACR-100 cell block inside the ACR reactor block assembly.

Continuous counter-current extractors give higher extraction efficiency with lower solvent usage when compared to standard co-current configurations.

  • Highly configurable – Options include co- and counter- current cell blocks, built from a variety of robust and chemically-resistant materials of construction. Working reactor volumes from 30 to 100 mL are interchangeable with minimal configurational changes to the reactor assembly.
  • Cleanable – All wetted surfaces and components are easily accessible, sanitized, and cleaned.
  • Versatile – Compatible with a wide scope of chemical processes for residence times ranging from seconds to hours. Multi-phase mixtures including slurries and gases can be processed with low risk of blocking or fouling.
  • Simple to use – Minimal set up required. Residence time is determined by the pump flow rate and not the size or length of the reactor process channels. Mixing and plug flow performance is maintained by default, irrespective of flow rate.
  • Wide pump compatibility – Low pressure drops for process and heat transfer fluids, greatly expanding choice of pumps.
  • A tool for lab chemistry – Cell reactor contents can be observed through glass windows. Reagents can be added, or samples removed and analyzed at each of the ten reactor cells. Operates with low working volumes, using
