Automated and Nutsche Filters

An agitated Nutsche filter isolates and separates solids from a solvent. The filtration technique is most often used in wastewater treatment, pharmaceutical production and dye and paint production.

Originally, Nutsche filters featured an open vessel that separated materials through suction. Modernization of the filtration process enclosed the vessels, allowing for agitation and pressurization. In a closed filter system, you also have greater control over the pH and environmental temperature.

Nutsche Filter Components

Nutsche filters typically contain four parts:

  1. The vessel: The filter body is typically either a one- or two-piece design.
  2. The drive assembly: The drive assembly includes the agitator system, with bellows, a gear box, a mechanical seal and a columnar support system.
  3. The discharge valve: The discharge valve allows for the automatic release of product, whether wet, dry, slurry or solvent.
  4. The dust filter: The dust filter is typically mounted on top of the vessel. It often allows for various types of media.

Nutsche filter dryers combine filtration with drying, which is distinct from filters that only dry. By using a high-torque, low-RPM agitator, a Nutsche filter dryer allows for repeatable and thorough drying.

Benefits of Nutsche Filter Dryers

Some of the advantages of using Nutsche filter dryers include:

  • Minimal contamination.
  • Maintenance of inert gas atmosphere.
  • Pressure or vacuum filtration.
  • Cost-effectiveness.
  • High solvent recovery.
  • No toxic vapors released into the atmosphere.
